Job Description

What does the role involve?

We are looking for a senior commercial solicitor to be based in Cambridge,   to undertake a wide range of work for life sciences businesses (including pharmaceutical and drug discovery businesses, medical devices companies, and service suppliers to the life sciences industry) and other clients of the commercial, IP and IT team. The work will include advising on IP licensing and partnering transactions; clinical trial agreements; commercial contracts; research collaborations; IP protection; regulatory issues in life sciences; data protection and due diligence for corporate transactions relating to life sciences.  As part of our top-ranked team, you will be working with our head of life sciences James Fry, as well as other members of our large and friendly commercial IP and IT team.

What experience is required?

You will have 5+years post qualification experience gained in a large regional or City firm, or in-house. You will have good technical skills in commercial law with a proven interest in life sciences businesses. You will be enthusiastic and a commercially-minded lawyer, and be prepared to turn your hand to a wide range of work. 

What skills and attributes would I need?

Essential:- Good academics - Excellent technical ability- Excellent written English and a keen eye for detail- Ability to build relationships with clients, potential clients and multipliers- Good time and paper management skills- Listening and questioning skills- Negotiating skills- Self-starting, with common-sense and initiative- Excellent interpersonal and team skills, including ability to work with others, influence, persuade- Good research skills, including an ability to use online information sources- Good IT skills You will be able to demonstrate:- An interest in commercial law and how it impacts on relationships between life sciences businesses- A thirst to understand what makes life sciences businesses work and an ability to ask the right questions about what clients are trying to achieve from their commercial relationships- An ability to understand the environment that clients work in and to deliver "advice that advises"- An ability to assimilate a lot of information quickly and focus on the key issues- Good time and file management skills to enable you to juggle lots of different matters- Flexibility to apply legal and commercial skills to a diverse range of contracts and arrangements- Dedication to providing outstanding client service- Ability to work under pressure - An enthusiasm to work as part of a team in line with the firm’s values.
