Job Description

What does the role involve?

We are looking for an IT and Data Protection solicitor to work alongside our Partner, Jagvinder Singh Kang, International & UK Head of IT Law (CIPP/E, CIPM), and be part of our National IT and Data Protection team.Based in Birmingham (but undertaking local, national and international IT and Data Protection law work), you will:- advise on all aspects of IT and Data Protection transactional work (eg SaaS contracts, software development contracts, IT outsourcing and BPO, intra-group data sharing arrangements, data processing arrangements) - advise on Data Protection compliance projects and enquiries (eg assisting with DPIAs, Article 30 registers and other UK GDPR and Data Protection Act requirements, privacy policies, PECR) - undertake Business Development activities to help build our local, national and international technology law offering - manage, supervise and train junior lawyers

What experience is required?

You should have 4+ years post qualification experience gained at a leading national or international law firm. You must have excellent technical skills being a Privacy lawyer that does IT transactional work as well. You will be a commercially-minded lawyer, and be prepared to turn your hand to a wide range of IT and Data Protection work.

What skills and attributes would I need?

- Good understanding of Data Protection Law and IT transactional work
- Good academics (2.1 degree or above or equivalent qualification, with commendation or above at LPC)
- Good attention to detail and drafting skills
- Good negotiating skills
- Good organisational skills (able to manage multiple matters and responsibilities whilst meeting timelines)
- Pro-active approach using own initiative
- Willing to learn and develop by taking on constructive feedback
- Good business development and presentation skills, to help build the local and national technology law practice
- Able to lead projects and manage team members (whilst providing supervision and training)
- Good team-working approach with a good sense of humour.
